Kids (ages 10+) and adults! If you’ve ever been in a DCT show and want to try for larger parts … or need singing help at auditions, this Master Class is for you! We can help you “up” your singing game with this mixed belt technique. In fact, you’ll leave this class with proven vocal techniques that will help you ace your auditions or shine onstage.
The Mixed Belt is a vocal technique used in musical theatre and popular music styles. It allows the singer to carry their chest voice above their break by mixing it with their head voice. They are then able to “belt” powerful notes with their full vocal color. It is a vital part of a singer’s vocal abilities and makes an impression at auditions.
In this class we’ll learn a series of vocal warmups that build the mixed belt technique. By using these techniques regularly you’ll find the magic key that opens the belt. *Some students will work on a solo song with the instructor to demonstrate how the technique works on songs themselves.
MEET YOUR TEACHER:
Emily Tepe, artist name IVA, is an award winning crossover singer who has been teaching the mixed belt technique for over fifteen years. Her students sing on Broadway, in feature films, and are admitted to some of the country’s most prominent music training programs including Berkeley School of Music, Juilliard, The New School, NYU’s Tisch, Northwestern, and LACM.
*Registered students who request to work on a song for the class will be entered in a lottery and drawn the week before the class. Please email your song request to info@dechildrenstheatre.org no later than May 5th.
SUMMER THEATRE WORKSHOPS
DCT Summer 2025 Theatre Workshops
Ages: Rising 3rd - 8th grades (ages 8 - 13)
Bring out your inner thespian and sharpen your theatre skills in this two weeklong musical theatre summer camp. During this camp your child will learn proper theatre etiquette, acting, dancing, and singing. Campers will be able to showcase their talent with a stage performance on the last day of camp. Sign up now, spaces are limited and are going fast!
Camp Dates: June 23 - July 3 (NOTE: No camp in July 4th)
Time: 10:00 - 2:00 PM
(NOTE: Final day of camp is scheduled for 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Campers will use this time for "show prep". Camp will end with the show for families at 4:30 PM.)

The theatre follows all CDC Covid recommendations.
In order to keep activities age-appropriate, children are divided into two groups. Each group has an experienced teacher and at least one assistant.
Children in the afternoon (11-3) session should pack a snack and drink.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Any cancellation must be submitted in writing to info@dechildrenstheatre.org. A cancellation made prior to June 1 will receive a refund less $200. A cancellation made after June 1 is not eligible for any refund unless there is a verifiable emergency or other situation that will make it impossible for the child to attend the workshop, in which case the refund amount will be determined by DCT.
